Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a project in Southern Peru (yes, I have a real job). The path there was long, but worth it.
This project was near the Chilean border, an area that has more foreign workers than tourists. To arrive here, first I had to fly to Lima, stay overnight, and then take a domestic flight to Tacna.

From here it was a two hour drive to Ilo, the city where the work was to take place. Most of this trip was through the Peruvian desert. In my head I thought to myself, this would be the perfect place for a person who wanted to disappear.

I stopped for a snack from a roadside fruit vendor.

Then the landscape changed; now the vistas were of the coast.

Finally, I arrived into Ilo. By now, it was late afternoon, so I decided to have drunch (dinner plus lunch). The dish was a Peruvian classic, Aji de Gallina. Aji is a yellow chili pepper. That being said, the sauce isn’t too spicy.

It was off to bed, and luckily, I had one more day to explore the town before work started.
