Norway: the country I should have visited when I went to Iceland and Sweden. But, just like with Uruguay, I got a second chance.
The itinerary I mapped out was to go west to east: Bergen, then do the informal Norway in a Nutshell tour, and then wrapping up with a day in Oslo. Unfortunately, Bergen doesn’t have many flights, so the most sensible itinerary for me was to fly from London on Widerøe, a Norwegian low cost carrier.
Upon arrival, I had hot dogs. These reminded me of the hot dogs in Reykjavic.

Bergen is reknowned for its wooden buildings. The name of the wharf area is Bryggen.

I then sauntered around the town on my way to the funicular. Notice the cleanliness of the city.

Then it was to the funicular that goes up Mount Fløyen to the Skansen panorama point. Luckily it was a clear day.

This goat was enjoying itself.

It was now dinner time, which had to be fish. I went to the waterfront restaurant Fjellskål. I decided to be adventurous and try monkfish and whale. Monkfish is an extremely scary looking fish (google it, I dare you), but the filet looks like any other fish, and the taste is neutral.

Whale on the other hand, was something I was not expecting. It tasted like liver, and one bite was enough for me. Perhaps it is what I deserved, as I shouldn’t have been eating whale anyway. In retrospect, I should have ordered salmon.

That wrapped up my day in Bergen. The next day was something I had been envisioning for years: Norway in a Nutshell.
