After four cities in seven days, it was time for the last one: Munich. Honestly, after my experience in Frankfurt airport upon my arrival in Germany (being sent to the back of an immigration line after reaching the front), I would’ve rather gone to Verona, Italy. But, by this point, plans were set in stone.
Munich was a two hour train ride from Innsbruck, and I had a disheartening experience on the way. German police singled me out in a berth with other Americans, asked for my passports and questioned me for several minutes before letting me on my way. This was the second time I was profiled by German police; not a very welcoming country. Though I’ve heard Berlin is different.
Anyhow, I had arrived now and had to make the best of it.
I took a walk from my hotel to Viktualienmarkt. There were some beautiful buildings on the way.

For lunch, I had fresh seafood at a place called Nordsee, which was rather unexpected in an area far from the sea. It was shockingly good.

Then, I stopped by the famed Muenchner Suppenkueche and grabbed some soup.

Now it was time to stop to the main attraction, Marienplatz. It was beautiful and teeming with foreign tourists (my worst nightmare), but after seeing enough European cities, all the central plazas look the same more or less.

There was a tower/arch in the plaza as well.

It was time to head back to the hotel. I took a different road back, and was treated to some remarkable buildings and fountains.

The walk was probably the most enjoyable part of my trip, as I love architecture. That being said, Munich didn’t really connect with me. Maybe it was being profiled by the police, or maybe it’s because I don’t drink beer. But it reminded me of Paris and Brussels, beautiful but lacking soul.
Now, it was time to pack up to head home. Five cities and four countries in eight days. I did it. Now time to plan the next trip: Ethiopia.
