After stopping at every single overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville was approaching. For the first time since Looking Glass Falls, a body of water appeared in sight, the French Broad River.

Of course, there was an overlook, of the bridge.

After several hours of driving, hunger called. A place called Moe’s Original BBQ which specialized in Alabama-style BBQ in Hendersonville piqued my interest, as I had never even aware that Alabama has BBQ. I had a plate of ribs and macaroni with cornbread and banana pudding. Very tasty, and very filling.

From here, I pulled into downtown Asheville. The art deco architecture was simply stunning. I had no expectations or knowledge of Asheville, so as an architecture buff of sorts, my breath was taken away.

To final event of the day was Winter Lights at the North Carolina Arboretum. It had been twenty years since I had been to a winter light show, back in my college days. These have become fancier (and more expensive) over the years. But still, a great way to spend an evening.


To wrap up the night, I went to Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar. Believe me when I say, this is some of the best food I’ve had in my life.
