Nashville: One of the few major cities in the country I had never visited. Now, I had the opportunity to go, so of course I went.
Upon arrival, the first order of business was lunch. There is a very famous soul food place named Monell’s near the city center.
The concept is to sit at a huge table with strangers and pass along plates of food. The amount of food given is staggering. I could not eat for the rest of the day.

Then I took a walk around near the state museum. This set of columns is the the Court of Three Stars, part of the larger Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.

And back to downtown. This is the Justice A.A. Birch Criminal Justice Building. Birch was the first African-American to serve on the Tennessee Supreme Court.
The destination for the night was the Grand Ole Opry. I actually had never heard of it, but it’s an institution for country music at 100 years of age. Its radio broadcast is the longest running in the country.

Unbelievably, the guest singer of the night was RINGO STARR. I told all my relatives in the UK and they were jealous beyond words.

After this, it was back to the hotel, 1 Hotel. It had a cool rooftop bar named Harriet’s with nice views.

That was it for day 1. Luckily I still had a day left to explore.
