Strasbourg, a city I’m only aware of because a high school friend moved there after falling in love with a Frenchman.
Of course, there is more to it than that. It has the Notre Dame cathedral, is a primary capital of the European Union, has a renowned Christmas market, and half-timbered houses.
It was on the way to Switzerland on my recent European jaunt, so I decided to make a stop.
This was the view as soon as I got off the train.
The bikes reminded me of Copenhagen. The train station is in the background.
After dropping my stuff at the hotel, I took a walk. Like many beautiful cities, Strasbourg is a river city.
I reached Petite France, the area of the city with half-timbered buildings. Nearby Colmar gets talked about for this style of buildings, but there are plenty in Strasbourg to see.
Now it was time to eat. I went to a restaurant on the water, La Corde à Linge. I had chicken with spätzle.
Now it was time to do more walking. The idea was to walk along the water until I reached Notre Dame.
And here it was, Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg, the main attraction of the city. Unfortunately, by the time I reached, it had closed. There’s always next time.

That was my few hours in Strasbourg. It was a cool city to visit, and nice to catch up with an old friend I hadn’t seen in decades. Next time I’ll give it more time, the time it deserves.
