Taliesen, Wisconsin

After going to Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, I decided I would like to visit more Frank Lloyd Wright sites if I had the opportunity. I am not a fanatic, but am a fan of architecture and he is the most famous American architect of the 20th century.

Taliesen, about an hour west of Madison, is the compound that Wright lived in for a significant portion of his life. There are some gruesome stories of fire and death regarding the residence that would even make the toughest man squirm. It’s all part of the tale of the property.

This is a view of one of the buildings from the outside.

We were then led inside. There was some type of class taking place.

Note the vaulted ceilings, Wright was ahead of his time.

A close up of the ceiling.

Like all Wright properties, plenty of natural light.

We were then taken outside to be taken to another building. I took some snaps along the way.

We were then allowed into the residence. Like the previous building, the most notable components are the high ceilings (revolutionary at the time), natural light, and furniture designed by Wright himself.

After the tour, it was time to head back to Milwaukee as the flight home would be the next morning. However, hunger called and I stopped at a shack on the side of the road and had the best grilled cheese sandwich of my life.

The trip to Wisconsin was great. Next on the agenda was somewhere I’d only recently thought of visiting: El Salvador.
