After an introductory day in Paramaribo followed by five days of work, it was time for the weekend. There were a few available tours, I chose to do the Suriname River boat tour, as there was a possibility of seeing dolphins.
We set sail from in informal docking area.
The boat was an aging one, but it did the job.
After taking an electric boat in Norway recently (post to come), the noise of gasoline/diesel engines is startling.
We made our way along the river, but no dolphins (yet).
Finally, after some time, the captain alerted us to the sight of dolphins! It was my first time seeing them in the wild, an indescribable feeling.
They kept to themselves, and probably due to the lack of overtourism, didn’t come to the boat as they aren’t reliant on humans for food, thankfully.
This was the end of day two. I had one day left in Suriname, and it was one I’ll never forget.
