Honolulu, Hawaii: Day 2

I started my second day in Honolulu with an acaí bowl from Island Vintage Coffee, just in front of the hotel. This was by far the best açaí I’d ever had in my life, I could tell the ingredients were fresh.

From here, it was off to Hanauma Bay, where I could exorcise demons from a decade prior. During my trip to Belize, I did not use the recommended snorkeling tour operator to save a couple of bucks, and the secondary operator never made the expedition. It was something that gnawed at me for years. But in life, sometimes you get a second chance. Similar to when I did not go to Uruguay in 2006, but ended up going in 2016.

I arrived to a sublime panorama. I had not seen anything similar to this other than Bermuda a decade prior. But Bermuda is in the ocean and as a result the water can be vicious.

I started making my way down.

There are few things as peaceful as being by the water on a sunny day.

After a couple of serene but stunning hours of snorkeling, it was off to lunch. It was due time to try poke, a distinctively Hawaiian dish. I had it at a local grocery store next to the Ala Moana mall, Foodland Farms, as it had a large variety and economical prices. Like the açaí, it was better than any poke I’d ever had before.

The grocery store was actually the best place to do souvenir shopping as the prices for the unique goods were priced for locals, not for tourists.

I stopped at the Bishop Museum for a bit. Unfortunately it was almost closing time, so I had only a few minutes there. I should’ve made more time. Back to Waikiki I went.

Though I was not particularly hungry, I decided to go to Marugame Udon, a famous Japanese restaurant in Waikiki. The line was one hour long, so by the time I got in, I figured I’d have some hunger. The wait was worth it, as I had the best Japanese curry I’d ever had in my life. I love Japanese curry, it has a unique flavor.

It was off to bed, and I had one (almost) full day left in Hawaii before flying back home.
