The Sierra Gorda region of Mexico, an area I had wanted to see since I visited the Huasteca Potosina nine years earlier. Now, finally I had the time to visit.
Getting here is not easy, it requires first flying to Queretaro and then an hours long drive along winding mountain roads. I flew into Queretaro at night and stayed at my hotel of choice, La Casa del Atrio. Note the high ceiling with the skylight.

The next day was going to be a long, busy one. It started with a healthy breakfast.

The driver from the tour company Turismo Sin Limites took me to Puerto del Cielo, a photographic stopping point.

Then, we went to Mirador de Cristal, a viewpoint. To get there was a short walk.

Then, we reached. What a view.

From there, it was onwards to the Chuveje waterfall. Again, it involved a short hike to the actual site. Note the beautiful water. This color is due to the mountains.

Finally, we reached. A sublime site, which one just watches in silence in awe of its beauty.

From there, it was the hike back to the car.

I saw to stay in the small village of Pinal De Amoles.

For dinner, I had an enchilada plate with a sauce made of bell peppers. I don’t particularly like bell peppers, but this was fantastic.

By now, it was night and time to sleep. The church was lit, and shockingly I met a British family. How they even found this place was astounding. Luckily, those were the only tourists I found, which means cheap prices and uncrowded sites.

Now, it was time to sleep in the bitter cold and prepare for the next day.
