Sierra Gorda, Mexico: Day 2, Part 1

My second day in the Sierra Gorda region of Mexico had so many activities that I must split it into separate posts. The day started at 4 AM, when we had to hike up a trail to Cuatro Palos, which means four stick in Spanish, though I’m not sure what the correlation is. When we arrived, it was still dark. Like in Big Bend National Park, I could see stars.

Slowly, the sun began to rise.

And a little more.

And a little more.

Almost there.

Finally, sunrise was upon us.

I was literally above the clouds.

Think of the view during the ascent or descent of an airplane, except experiencing it in its full element. I cannot describe it any better, and probably it was the most amazing view of anything I’ve ever had in my life.

Now the sun had arisen above the clouds.

And now, dawn was over and it was day.

I took a few pictures of the general area before leaving.

Suffice to say, if I only saw this in a day, it would’ve been a complete experience for me. However, it was just the beginning of an incredible day.
